Global Seed Fund": A New Name and Three New Grant Recipients
At the October Annual Meeting in Boston, the Lisle Board of Directors agreed on a
new name for the Lisle Mini-Grant program. The idea was brought to the board by Marty Tillman, and everyone agreed that the name more inspiringly reflected the vision of what Lisle is trying to do. Our goal is to assist organizations that can benefit from a
small amount of seed money, to develop new ideas and build on projects in the arena of cross-cultural understanding and peace-building. For more information from Interaction, please see Winter 2008 Interaction, pages 1-15.
At the Boston meeting, the Lisle board approved three new projects for funding during 2007.
In India, a grant was awarded to
Chintan for work they will be
doing with Muslim women in the Seemapuri district of New Delhi. These women will learn skills to ensure they
are being treated fairly within their job as wastepickers, will work to help them enroll their children in school and work to help them new skills which will allow them to work more safely and profitably.
The second grant was awarded to the Mountain Childrens
Forum for a new project involving child workshops in villages which will empower them to action. These workshops enroll children from local youth
groups to come together to learn from each other and to practice new skills which will allow them to go back to their local communities and become catalists for action. The
third grant was awarded to a project in Zambia which seeks to empower girls through playing soccer.
More information
will be available in the upcoming Interaction.

Spring Board Meeting
The Spring Board of Directors meeting met Friday and Saturday, May 2-4 at the Hosteling International Hostel in down town Chicago. While the weather and health concerns kept a few of the board members at home, those that arrived had productive sessions on Saturday and Sunday. The board approved the next cycle of the
Global Seed Fund, they heard an upbeat report on the Lisle India trip which was in India from January 8 - 24, they heard from a possible applicant about her project to bring African young ladies to the US each summer to learn and share about their lives, heard from Lisler Sharon Kristjanson about her contacts in the field and ideas which she has for Lisle to foster connections, and also transacted the business of the corporation with many decisions which will make us even more effective in the future.

India Visit a Great Success
The Lisle Visitation Trip to India arrived in Delhi on January 8 for a two week visit. Six Lislers including Barbara Bratton, Lois and Richard Huddlestone, Suzanne Vogel, and Mark and Nancy Kinney visited several Seed Grant recipient agencies and several other projects. They were all very impressed with the work being done and the enthusiasm of everyone involved. Once again Sharada Nayak created an exciting visit to the sites. More information will be posted as it become available.
